Middlebury Finishes 9th of 14 at No Ringer

This spring's No Ringer proved to be a fun and informal event as usual. Skippers Elyse McNiff and Alex Molo with crews Ashley Bell and Adam Volwiler represented Middlebury in overcast skys and 0-10 kt breeze. As usual, full results here.

Busy April weekend

For the first time, Midd Sailing attended three events in one weekend. A total of twelve sailors attended the Morris Trophy at BU, the Central Five at MIT, and an invite at MIT. All three events were on the Charles, which offered sunshine and 10kt winds.

Middlebury attends Moody Intersectional

Skippers Max Junda and Ben Brown with crews Ashley Bell and Abe Bendheim attended the Moody Trophy at U. Rhode Island. The two day trophy was open to teams from all over the country. Our team really enjoyed seeing new teams at the regatta and report having an awesome time.

Midd Finished 9th at NEDT

Skippers Phil Houten and Shannon Donegan with crews Adam Volwiler and Patch Culbertson sailed to a 9th place finish at the New England Dinghy Tournament at Salve Regina over the recent weekend. After finishing 6th on Saturday, tough racing in 15-20 kt breeze left the team in 9th place after Sunday's races. Full results here.

3/16/08:
Midd Struggles at Veitor Trophy
The only fleet racing trophy of the weekend brought top competition to Salve Regina. With gusts to 30kt, racing was cancelled for Saturday. Sunday brought 7-17 kt winds and stiff competition. With top squads preparing for fleet race nationals, Middlebury fell to 14th of 15 over 18 races. Sailing for Middlebury were skippers Shannon Donegan and Alex Molo with crews Patch Culbertson and Ian Cameron. Full results here.
3/15/08:
Sailing Cancelled at PC
Skippers Chandler Koglmeier and Anna Briggs with crews Peter Greenwood and Abe Bendheim traveled to Providence College in Providence, RI for an informal invite on Saturday. High winds in Providence caused races to be cancelled. Sailors report having a nice lunch in Boston on the way back to Middlebury.
3/10/08:
Wood Trophy at Salve Regina Kicks off Spring Season
Middlebury skippers Phil Houten and Max Junda with crews Adam Volwiler and Ashley Bell sailed to a mid-fleet finish in the NEISA fleet racing opener. Max and Ashley are in boat four above. Winds of 5-10 knots were accompanied by a soaking rain on Saturday. Conditions were near perfect in Newport on Sunday, with blue skies, sun and 15-20 knots winds gusting to 25. The team finished 10th of 18 teams. Full results can be found here.

Strong Feb Class Boosts Numbers to 40.
Sailors from the class of 2011.5 have increased Middlebury's race team to 40 members. Middlebury is gearing up for the spring season, with racing set to begin next weekend. Skippers Phil Houten and Max Junda will sail with crews Adam Volwiler and Ashley Bell in Middlebury's season opener: the Wood Trophy at Salve Regina.

Volwiler Named to NEISA Executive Board:
Middlebury's Adam Volwiler was recently elected to serve as the Undergraduate Representative for the Northern District of the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association (NEISA). Elections were held at the winter NEISA meeting at nearby UVM. Adam will be responsible for keeping in touch with all northern district teams and voting on their behalf at NEISA meetings. Adam also serves as Middlebury Sailing’s Vice Commodore.

Commodore and Treasurer Find Sun and Sailing over Winter Break:
The snow is falling in Vermont and Lk. Champlain is starting its winter freeze. However, two Middlebury sailors found a way to squeeze in some warm weather sailing over the holidays. Commodore Chandler Koglmeier spent 10 days in Belize sailing with his family. Treasurer Katie Donovan is pictured above spending a day sailing with her family on Sydney Harbor during her holiday adventure to New Zealand and Australia.
