Fall 2009 Final Standings
NEISA has announced the final standings for the Fall 2009 season. The Middlebury Panthers ranked 25/35 in the coed division, just behind our friends up at McGill. Click here for the full list of rankings.
Race Team Overview
The centerpiece of the Middlebury College Sailing Club is the race team. With just over thirty sailors the race team travels throughout the Northeast competing in 1-4 NEISA regattas per weekend. We practice with a fleet of 12 FJs, brand new in 2008, and train hard to compete against some of the best sailors in the country. Race team sailors are involved in all aspects of the club, including the Rec & PE programs, which fosters an unparalleled sense of camaraderie and community.
We hold practices 3-4 days a week at Lake Dunmore - arguably the most beautiful venue in all of NEISA. Practices start at the conclusion of most classes and run until sunset; we often sail from the first week of the Fall semester until the water starts to ice over in November. During the fall we have a full-time coach that runs practices and travels with us to regattas. Our Spring season is somewhat attenuated due to the weather - outside of the 3-4 regattas in which we compete we also attend spring training in San Diego. Even when Lake Dunmore is covered in ice the team still has regular meetings and social gatherings - in particular to watch the America's cup and make the best of J-term.
With the creation of our new website in the Spring of 2010 we have brought our regatta scheduling and team management into the 21st century. Check back here often to find the most recent regatta schedules, scores and team member updates.
