Rec & PE Overview
Come sail with us! The Middlebury College Sailing Club is pleased to offer both a Physical Education class and a Recreational Sailing program. Sailing is a fantastic lifelong sport that is fun regardless of your ability level. Whether it is for your first time or your hundredth time, come and join us down at Lake Dunmore for an afternoon of sailing.
PE Sailing
If you've never sailed before or if you just want to reinforce the basics sign up for the PE sailing class. Every fall the MCSC offers one class with 12 slots taught by US Sailing trained and certified instructors. It fills up fast so get your registration in early! Come back to this page for updates regarding the class schedule and instructor information in the Fall.
Recreational Sailing
There are few more beautiful ways to spend a sunny afternoon in Vermont than by sailing on Lake Dunmore. The Rec program is free of charge and open to all students - don't miss this wonderful opportunity while at Midd! If you're new to the sport or have never sailed before we will pair you with an experienced sailor. Several afternoons a semester we will be having BBQs and mock regattas - perfect for those of you looking to relax by the water or get into the competitive spirit of dinghy sailing. Sign up for our Rec sailing mailing list to receive updates on dates and times, or come back to this page for a full schedule in the fall! Please contact us or talk to a sailor on the team if you have any questions!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQS)
Do I need any special gear or clothing?
No, we will provide life jackets and all of the equipment necessary for the boats; however, most people wear swimsuits or clothing that they don't mind getting wet (non-cotton clothing is best). We try to schedule our PE classes and Rec sailing days during the warmest parts of the season, but sometimes it can be a little cold anyway, so dress accordingly. It is always better to have too many layers than too few - you can always shed a sweatshirt or jacket. Finally, sunglasses and sunscreen are always recommended as it can be very bright out on the water.
Do I have to tell someone that I am coming to Rec sailing?
No, you can just show up and sail! However, if you are interested in working on a specific sailing technique contact us or talk to someone on the team in person and we can find someone to sail with you.
If I sign up for the email list will you flood my inbox with messages?
Absolutely not - we try to be very judicious about our emails. Furthermore, there is an unsubscribe link at the bottom of each email which will remove your address from our mailing list immediately!
